“I founded Neurodiversity Celebration Week in 2018 because I wanted to change the way learning differences are perceived. As a teenager who is autistic and has ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia, my experience has been that people often focus on the challenges of neurological diversity. I wanted to change the narrative and create a balanced view which focuses equally on our talents and strengths.”

~Siena Castellon, Founder of Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Neurodiversity Celebration Week challenges how the public views and misunderstands neurological differences. It aims to promote the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent, while creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

Nationally, it is neurodiversity celebration week this week, but due to the assembly schedule, we are going to do ours the first week back after Easter (8th-12th April). This special week at High Point Academy will explicitly celebrate the different minds that make up our school.  It aims to raise awareness on neurodiversity, as well as challenge prejudices and stereotypes. It will also recognise the many talents, skills and advantages of being neurodivergent. High Point embraces an inclusive and equitable culture which empowers individuals and celebrates differences.

For our Neurodiversity Celebration week we will be doing the following:

–         Special assemblies

–         Displays and posters around school

–         Activities in classes and form times

–         A day of wearing rainbow/bright colours on Friday 12th April!
